Police: Missing woman never fell into the Black River

SOUTH HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have found the woman who went missing Saturday morning after reportedly falling into the Black River near South Haven.

South Haven police officer Mike Knizewski tells 24 Hour News 8 that dive crews resumed their search for the missing woman at first light Saturday.

Knizewski says officers found evidence the woman had left behind near the banks of the river. After some time Van Buren County Undersheriff Chad Hunt found a woman hiding in the woods near the Kal-Haven Trail around 8:40 a.m.

Authorities made contact with the woman, who denied her identity to police.

After verifying she was in fact the woman they were looking for, officers determined the woman had never fallen in the water at all and was never missing.
