BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — An 18-year-old man is now charged with murder in the death of a Battle Creek homeowner whose body was discovered in his burned home on New Year's Day.
Drequan Thomas Scott appeared in court Friday where he was arraigned on an open murder charge in connection to the death of 58-year-old Howard Gillette.
Police announced Scott’s arrest Thursday. Detectives said he was originally taken into custody on New Year’s Eve for driving while intoxicated. During the traffic stop, a Michigan State Police trooper found a “large caliber handgun” in Scott’s car, according to Battle Creek Police Sgt. Jeff Case.
