GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man is ready to put down his clippers after 68 years as a barber.
Harm Faber has been a familiar face around Alger Heights for decades. Saturday will be the last time he's behind the chair inside Alger Heights Barber and Styling Shop.
"I'm of two minds," he told 24 Hour News 8 Friday morning. "I do want to quit, but yet I'm going to miss seeing old friends. I've cut some people's hair for over 50 years, and I will miss seeing them."
Faber followed in his father's footsteps to become a barber, who recommended he pick up a trade skill after Faber decided he didn't want to go to college.
He has watched Eastern Avenue in Alger Heights transform over the years, as well as history unfold alongside his customers.
