President Trump is planning to withdraw about half of the U.S. troops currently serving in Afghanistan in the coming months.
Both the Wall Street Journal and New York Times reported that Trump made the decision to pull out about seven thousand soldiers at the same time he decided to pull American forces from Syria. There are currently 14-thousand U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
A source told the Times the decision is to force Afghan forces to become less reliant on American troops.
More than 25-thousand Afghan troops have died since the American military ended its combat mission there in late 2014.
