Davenport to add esports for 2019-20 season

CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Davenport University is adding esports to its athletic program for the 2019-20 season.

Davenport is the second school in Michigan to offer esports, and one of less than 120 in the U.S. and Canada.

A Davenport release says esports fits into the school’s sports programming and aligns with its academic offerings.

The school didn’t specify what games esports team members will play, but said it is in the process of hiring a head coach and recruiting a team to play in the fall.

Davenport is planning to renovate a space within its student center to house a gaming facility for the team.
