GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An East Grand Rapids girl has a neat story to tell after the weather balloon she launched as part of a school project ended up in Canada.
"We took a cooler, and we attached a parachute and high-altitude weather balloon to it with a tracker inside," Brit Steketee, a third-grader at Wealthy Elementary, explained to 24 Hour News 8 Wednesday.
She also included a plushy of her school's mascot, the Wealthy Wizard.
She launched the weather balloon in September and had planned to track it with GPS, but that didn't work out.
"After a couple minutes … we realized that my dad forgot to press the tracker button," Brit said.
