CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Greenville woman says she thought she was in a dream when she stepped of her flight at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport to balloons, cheers and gifts.
Sue Diehl became the three millionth traveler to pass through the Ford Airport Wednesday. Airport officials marked the milestone by surprising her with gift baskets including $900 worth of airline vouchers for future flights.
“I’m honored. They asked to see us when we were on the plane, which is not usually good thing. But she reassured us that it was going to be good. Unreal. This is crazy. Thank you, thank you,” Diehl said happily.
“I was thinking I was in a dream because I did take a little nap on the plane and I woke up and I see balloons and all of this,” she added.
Diehl and her husband purchased their Delta flight tickets in May so they could visit her sister in Florida. They had no idea then that when they landed back in Kent County, they would be setting history at Ford Airport.
The airport will celebrate the milestone from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday with treats, giveaways and a drawing for three $300 flight vouchers.
Ford Airport has six consecutive years of record travel growth and anticipates setting another passenger record this year.
