GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Crews prepping a Grand Rapids site for development unearthed a piece of history dating back more than a century.
Officials at Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for Garfield Park Lofts cracked open the time capsule buried at the site in 1909. Inside, they found several items from the former Burton Heights Methodist Church, including:
- A Bible from 1887
- A Bible from 1905
- A card of hymn verses sung at the church’s cornerstone laying on Sept. 25, 1909. Bishop David H. Moore presided over the ceremony.
