GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A monthslong nationwide search for a new leader of the Grand Rapids Symphony took a surprising turn when the spotlight suddenly turned to the one leading the search, Mary Tuuk.
In August, CEO Peter Perez, 78, announced his plans to retire Dec. 31 and prompted the extensive search.
"So the search committee formed this past summer and we saw a number of candidates, when all of a sudden that course changed very dramatically," said Tuuk, adding that it was a pleasant surprise.
Tuuk is a longtime symphony leader, serving on the board and singing in the choir. She's also the senior vice president with Meijer.
