GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Community members will soon have a chance to help Grand Rapids’ homeless and continue the work of an advocate who passed away.
The Purple Backpack Project started earlier this year to honor 21-year-old Jordan Blauuw of Grand Rapids, who died from an overdose in April 2017.
Blauuw was passionate about helping the homeless, many of whom struggle with substance abuse and mental illness. Now his family is teaming up with Dirt City Sanctuary to do a massive backpack distribution on Nov. 17 and Dec. 22.
