GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are asking drivers to avoid a section of 3rd Street NW as they try to get an armed assault suspect out of a home.
Police say it all started Tuesday with a 911 call about a person with a gun who pistol-whipped somebody at a home in the 1000 block of 3rd Street NW, north of I-196.
Officers say the caller said there were multiple witnesses to the assault.
Police are calling the situation a “critical incident.” They say they’ve called everyone out of the home and are checking for any additional potential victims. They believe the suspect is still hiding in the home.
Officers are also calling in a special response team and crisis negotiators.
Drivers are asked to use Bridge Street and 5th Avenue as alternative routes.
