GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Community members gathered at the Grand Rapids Police Department’s headquarters Sunday evening to share their concerns about a string of incidents where innocent African-American children were handcuffed during police investigations, and in some cases, were held at gunpoint.
An “All Kids Matter” march planned by Kent County Commissioner Robert S. Womackprompted police to organize the forum, which they said was aimed at educating city residents about their policies and bringing the community together.
It all started with a small demonstration outside the police headquarters before moving into a room inside the police headquarters.
