TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WOOD) — The West Michigan Whitecaps have purchased the Traverse City Beach Bums team and ballpark.
The Whitecaps announced the transaction of the Beach Bums and Wuerfuel Park Wednesday. Traverse City will begin play as a Northwoods League affiliate for West Michigan in May of 2019.
The Kalamazoo Growlers and Battle Creek Bombers are also affiliates of the Northwoods League.
Whitecaps CEO announced in a release that the team and stadium will be rebranded, meaning the Beach Bums will receive a new name. A contest to name the team is being held online through Oct. 15.
The winner will receive four season tickets to the 2019 season, a suite for one night, a package of team merchandise and will throw out the first pitch of opening day.
