ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — An Allegan County resident has died from West Nile virus, health officials say.
County health officials Tuesday would only identify the resident as an older man.
His death is the fourth confirmed West Nile death in Michigan this year. Oakland County health officials announced Tuesday that an 80-year-old man there died from complications caused by the virus. Miguel Hernandez of Grand Rapids died from West Nile virus last month; the other death happened in Wayne County.
As of Sept. 25, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says it has recorded 54 human cases of West Nile virus statewide this year. That includes at least a dozen cases in Kent County, two cases in Ottawa County, three cases in Allegan County, 2 cases in Berrien County and 1 case in Saint Joseph County.
