WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — A Walker firefighter is among the emergency responders headed toward the Carolinas to assist in the Hurricane Florenceemergency response.
Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall on the east coast with devastating wind speeds upwards of 125 mph this weekend. Residents have been warned to get out of the storm's way.
Lt. Dean England of the Walker Fire Department is on the Michigan Task Force that is responding to the forecasted disaster. He got word Wednesday afternoon that he was being deployed and was expected to be on the road by nightfall.
"I am very excited about going but I'm not going to lie, I am definitely nervous," England told 24 Hour News 8 before leaving. "It's going to be tough to see what we've already been told is probably going to be pretty bad."
