RAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Ground will be broken on Harrison Park Apartments Thursday as a response to the growing housing crisis on Grand Rapids’ West Side.
According to school leaders, the housing crisis is harming the success of the Challenge Scholars program offered at Grand Rapids Public Schools. The program prepares students on the west side of Grand Rapids for college. Also, it provides scholarships for students who graduate in good standing from Union High School.
Displacement and rising rates has jeopardized the effect of breaking the cycle of poverty through post-secondary education.
