Driver in deadly buggy crash pleads guilty to multiple charges

EVERGREEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The driver of a pickup truck involved in a deadly buggy crash in Montcalm County has pleaded guilty to multiple misdemeanor charges in connection to the crash.

Brandon King, 29, of Sheridan was charged Tuesday with three counts of a moving violation causing death and three counts of a moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function. He also pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday.

The crash happened on Oct. 29 on Condensary Road near Sheridan. A family of nine was going east in their horse-drawn buggy when it was rear-ended by King’s pickup truck.

Paul Martin, 40, and Judith Martin, 34, were seriously injured in the crash. Three of their children, 11-year-old Cameron, 9-year-old Kayla and 7-year-old Kendra Martin, were killed. The Martin’s other four children were also injured, but were released days after the crash.

A sentencing date has not been scheduled yet.
