PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A Portage park beach is closed after tests showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria.
Ramona Park Beach will remain closed until bacteria levels drop and additional water tests meet state safety standards.
The Kalamazoo County Department of Environmental Health announced the closure Tuesday, after reviewing the results of weekly water tests. The agency says the advisory impacts the park beach area only, not Long Lake as a whole.
Health officials say bacteria counts can differ based on land use and development, weather, wind direction, air and water temperatures, storm water runoff, wildlife population and the number of swimmers.
Beach visitors who feel ill are encouraged to contact their doctor.
