PFAS testing of public water prioritized by risk

PARCHMENT, Mich. (WOOD) — Parchment’s public water system is the first one flagged for high PFAS levels in the state’s coordinated testing effort.

There’s no way to know if it will be the last.

Michigan’s PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) is conducting tests of the state’s 1,800 public water systems, including 461 school districts that have their own water supply.

The state prioritized the order of testing based on public health risk level.

The team considered population density, industrial history and geological characteristics, among other factors.
