CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Health officials have shut down a pool at a Kent County hotel where four children and two adults fell ill.
It happened around 10 a.m. Monday at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 5401 28th Court SE, northeast of the I-96 exit for 28th Street in Cascade Township.
A sergeant with the Kent County Sheriff's Office said all six people were coughing and having troubles breathing.
Authorities initially suspected pool chemicals were possibly to blame, but the hotel manager said the pool and hot tub checked out OK in tests.
Additional tests showed high chlorine levels in the water, forcing the Kent County Health Department to shut down the pool Monday afternoon. The health department will return to run further tests before the pool can reopen.
The Kent County Sheriff's Office tells 24 Hour News 8 the four children and two adults were from the same family, and no one was seriously injured.
