Fourth of July forecast: Heat, a few storms

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Fourth of July is typically the hottest holiday of the year and this year will certainly live up to that.

Both the third and the Fourth of July will play host to highs in the low 90s, and it will feel hotter than that because of the substantial humidity. Heat index readings today will be in the mid to upper 90s. Peak heat index readings Wednesday will be near 100 degrees.

3rd AND the 4th of July Forecast

We have already seen eight 90-degree days so far this year. Tuesday and Wednesday will likely bring our count up to 10.

Our dew points will be steamy, climbing back into the low 70s for the Fourth.

Any showers and storms that form on Wednesday will be hit and miss. Many of these may pop off in the early afternoon as a lake breeze forms. This would act to clear out the lakeshore a bit earlier in the day and bring refreshingly cooler lake air 10 to 25 miles inland.

Most of the showers and thunderstorms will have dissipated by 10pm.
