GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids resident who allegedly stole another man’s identity and citizenship status to try to obtain immigration benefits for his wife is going to prison.
A federal judge recently sentenced 42-year-old Franklin J. Flores to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. As part of his plea deal, he also entered a guilty plea for falsely claiming U.S. citizenship on a form to get his wife into the country.
The U.S. Attorney says they were alerted to the situation when a New Mexico man reported Flores had stolen his identity. On Jan. 20, 2017, authorities searched Flores’ Grand Rapids home and found a pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition.
