GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids Griffins head coach Todd Nelson is reportedly close to reaching a deal to become an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars.
The Athletic’s Sean Shapiro tweeted Wednesday that Nelson and the Stars are close to a deal to make him an assistant coach.

While the Griffins or Nelson haven’t confirmed the report, the Griffins tweeted out a message from center Ben Street supporting Nelson getting a chance to move on to an NHL position.
In his three years as head coach of the Griffins, Nelson led the team to three playoff appearances and a Calder Cup.
