KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — It has become a rite of spring in Kalamazoo: The International Congress on Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University.
Medieval scholars from around the world have flocked to Kalamazoo for the 53rd annual event this weekend. About 3,000 people from nearly 50 nations and 49 states and the District of Columbia are expected to attend.
“I’m here to present a paper, first of all, on my research. And then, also, to gather with my colleagues from not only the U.S. but also abroad,” said Kira Robison, who is attending the congress from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The medieval congress began in 1962 and became an annual event in 1970. At it, you can learn about everything from medieval magic and medicine to the architectural techniques used to lay out a medieval cathedral.
Ashley Cyr works for a Canadian publishing company. She comes every year to show professors academics books available for sale or to adopt into their courses.
