BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The battered 100th Street overpass in southern Kent County was hit again Friday afternoon, marking at least the eighth time this year that a truck's tall load has struck the bridge deck.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says metal crates being hauled by a semi were stacked too high to fit under the bridge. After the load hit the bridge, several of the containers were scattered along the side of the highway and in the southbound lanes.
Other vehicles were involved in crashes after the bridge hit.
The bridge itself was not damaged.
One southbound lane was blocked for a couple of hours while authorities cleaned up, causing a traffic backup as past M-6.
