CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — It's not every day you get a chance to witness Mother Nature's fury up close.
Lori Lynn’s chance came Saturday in Hawaii, as Mount Kilauea continued to blow off steam.
“It was an amazing, exhilarating experience,” she said.
The Byron Center resident was visiting her son Levi Lilly, who moved to Maui a few years ago. Days before her visit, Kilauea became more active.
Since the best way to see all that action was from the air, mom and son took off on a volcano tour. They were expecting to see a few fissures oozing out lava from the comfort of a 10-seat tour plane.
Then came the radio call. Something big was happening to Kilauea.
“We rushed right over there, got some awesome video. Our pilot said he'd never seen anything like it (and) he'd been flying with them for several years,” Lynn said.
She says what she saw is difficult to put into words, so they took photos and video.
