ATHENS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are seeking tips in locating two suspects in an attempted breaking and entering.
The incident happened around 10:36 a.m. Tuesday at an Athens Township home, south of Battle Creek.
The resident was woken up by someone knocking on his front door. When he got dressed and went to investigate, he was met by a man and woman who had entered the home through a rear entrance.
A Michigan State Police release said the man didn’t know the suspects, so he grabbed a knife and confronted the suspects. The male suspect then brandished a handgun and pointed it at the resident before fleeing the home.
The release said they fled in a 1992-95 blue or dark-colored Chevrolet Suburban going west on E W Ave into Kalamazoo County.
Authorities describe the male suspect as a scruffy white male standing 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10 with a thin build who was wearing a baseball hat with a straight bill. The other suspect is described as a white woman standing 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6 with a heavy build who was wearing cut-off shorts and had dark hair pulled into a bun.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Michigan State Police Marshall Post at 269.558.0500 or Silent Observer at 269.964.3888.
