Commission discusses proposed warehouse; no word of Amazon

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Members of the Gaines Township Planning Commission took up a proposal for a large warehouse Thursday night. But Amazon was not mentioned during the meeting.

The planning commission recommended the full township board approve zoning changes to some smaller pieces of land surrounding the property. The massive building would be located at the southwest corner of 68th Street and Patterson Avenue. That’s near the M-6/East Beltline Avenue interchange.

The property is 97 acres; the proposed warehouse, currently titled “Project Rapids,” would be more than 1 million square feet.

The Gaines Township Planning Commission will further discuss the proposed warehouse during their next meeting in April. Members could vote on the overall plan as early as May.
