GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A large warehouse is being proposed in southern Kent County, and one report says it could be an Amazon distribution center.
A Gaines Township Planning Commission report shows the proposal for a massive building at the southwest corner of 68th Street and Patterson Avenue. That's near the M-6/East Beltline interchange. The property is currently a field, but it's owned by Steelcase, which has a facility just down the street.
The property is 97 acres; the proposed building, currently titled "Project Rapids," would be more than 1 million square feet.

Citing sources, MiBiz.com reports it will be a distribution center for Amazon.
Steelcase, township and other local officials would not confirm that to 24 Hour News 8. Some said they have signed nondisclosure agreements and can't comment.
Steelcase provided this statement to 24 Hour News 8:
"Steelcase is occasionally approached by outside organizations or individuals looking to purchase its real estate holdings, but we do not comment on the existence or status of potential or pending transactions. I can confirm the parcel of land adjacent to our existing facility in Gaines Township is owned by Steelcase."
The proposal filed with the township does say the building will be used for shipping, receiving, distributing, preparing and selling products, materials, food and grocery, and liquor items.
The Gaines Township Planning Commission will discuss the proposal during its meeting Thursday.
