COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police say 38 vehicles were involved in a pileup crash that shut down eastbound I-94 between Sprinkle Road and 35th Street in Comstock Township for hours.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. Friday during heavy snowfall. First responders were working to remove a jackknifed semitractor-trailer at the Galesburg exit ramp when the chaos began to unfold. In the blink of an eye, cars and semis started crashing into each other.
“My tire collided with the end of the semi along with the back end of my truck,” said John Riebel, who was driving on I-94. “So it totally destroyed my whole wheel and tire.”
