NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD) — A Norton Shores school was locked down and neighbors were asked to stay inside as police searched for a masked man who reportedly stabbed a woman after she walked into her kitchen.
It happened around 3:16 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Aue Road, according to the Norton Shores Police Department.
The 23-year-old woman told officers she left her bathroom to find the masked suspect in her kitchen. She told police that the suspect grabbed a knife from the counter and stabbed her in the chest before running from the scene. Officers say her injury is not life-threatening and she was in stable condition Monday evening.
NSPD Lt. Michael Kasher told 24 Hour News 8 it’s unclear if there’s a relationship between the victim and suspect. He did say that this does not appear to be a situation in which a random person was going door-to-door and there is not believed to be a public threat.
Nearby Ross Park Elementary school went into lockdown as police combed the area looking for the suspect. Officers safely escorted students and staff out of the building. All residents in the area were being asked to lock their doors and remain inside while the search was underway.
