The Alzheimer's Association is inviting Muskegon residents to join the Walk To End Alzheimer's on October 19.
The event will be held at Hackley Park with registration starting at 9 a.m. and the opening ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. The walk will immediately follow.
The Muskegon Walk To End Alzheimer's raised over $81,000 last year. The funding is used for Alzheimer's and dementia care, critical research and support.
“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are now treatments that change the course of the disease,” said Jennifer Lepard, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter. “We hope that everyone in our community can join us by starting a team to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease today, take more steps toward treatments and finally end this disease.”
Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's with over 202,800 of those individuals living in Michigan.
“I’ve seen firsthand the devastation of this disease, affecting family, friends, and the community,” said Cindy Anderson, community engagement chair for the Muskegon Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “I have also seen how the Association utilizes Walk funds to educate the community, support caregivers, raise awareness and walk alongside those journeying the day to day of caregiving for someone living with dementia, making the moments matter.”
