Drone and witness help KCSO deputies nab a stolen-vehicle suspect

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Kent County Sheriff's Office says a drone and the public helped deputies arrest a stolen-vehicle suspect in Byron Township.

That is in southern Kent County.

Deputies arrived around 11 o'clock Wednesday night at a location near 100th Street and US-131 to find the vehicle unoccupied. But a witness saw the driver walk into the woods and told police. The sheriff's drone pilot then used infrared technology to locate the man inside another nearby vehicle.

He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Kent County Correctional Facility. Police say it will be up to the Kent County Prosecutor's Office to determine which charges will be filed.

The Sheriff's Office added, "KCSO extends our appreciation to our observant community because their actions help keep our community safe."
