Salvation Army seeking donations of clothing, household goods

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Salvation Army says it urgently needs donations of gently used clothing and household goods in West Michigan.

The Salvation Army’s Thrift Stores rely on public donations to fund its Adult Rehabilitation Program.

"As we have increased production, we've found that we need more clothing and household goods, electronic goods and furniture," Jacqulynn Idzior said. She is the business administrator for the Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center in downtown Grand Rapids.

She told WOOD Radio that items can be dropped off at any Salvation Army Thift Store from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Pick up may be available in some areas. The Salvation Army provides services to program participants at no cost.

"We are trying to increase the production in our thrift stores in order to make more money for the (ARC)," Idzior said.

Pick up may be available in the greater Grand Rapids, Holland and Portage areas.

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) has been in operation for over 100 years, providing rehabilitation services to communities across the United States. The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center is a 180-day residential program providing spiritual, social, and emotional assistance to people who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves.

The Salvation Army provides services at no cost to the program participants and The Salvation Army receives no government funding to operate the program. As such, donations of clothing, household goods, etc. from the community are essential to ensuring the continued provision of services in Grand Rapids.
