Muskegon Police investigate fatal car/pedestrian accident on US-31

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- The Muskegon Police Department is investigating a fatal crash this morning on US-31 near Sherman Boulevard to contact it or Silent Observer.

It happened around 5:50 a.m. Police say a 29-year-old Muskegon man was attempting to cross the highway and was struck by a passing vehicle. Responding officers pronounced him dead at the scene. The man's name has not been released yet.

Muskegon County Dispatchers tell WOOD Radio the southbound lanes were shut down for nearly three hours at the Laketon Avenue exit. Police say more information will be provided when it becomes available.

The Muskegon Police Department asks any witnesses to call it at 231-724-6750, or Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.

It added in a news release, "The Muskegon Department of Public Safety wishes to offer our deepest sympathy to everyone affected by this tragedy."
