The Kent County Department of Public works wants to make residents aware of a better way to dispose of cleaning supplies, electronics, batteries and other not easily disposable household items.
The SafeChem program offers those living in the county five locations where you can safely dispose of hazardous waste, with one being in Grand Rapids, Rockford, Grandville, Kentwood and Byron Center.
There, items such as bleach, microwaves, batteries, painting supplies and more can be dropped off. Once that's done, the items are placed on shelves for other residents to reuse for free.
