Police in Ottawa Co investigate threatening call to West Ottawa High School

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a threatening phone call that was placed to West Ottawa High School this morning.

Police said it came in around 9:35 from an unknown caller threatening unspecified violence. They say a Sheriff's Office School Resource Deputy was on scene during the call and began working with school administrators to investigate the situation. The high school is located on Butternut Drive, between Quincy and Riley streets.

The sheriff's office said deputies responded to area school buildings while investigators worked to determine the source of the phone call. A shelter-in-place was put in place on the high school campus. It was later cleared, and many parents came to pick up students on what had been a scheduled half-day of classes.

Police know that similar calls have been placed to other school districts in recent weeks, as well. They ask anyone with more information to contact the Sheriff's Office or Silent Observer at 1-877-88-SILENT (745368) or mosotips.com .
