Sergeant now faces multiple felony charges for allegedly assaulting inmate

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says her office has charged a Hillsdale County Sheriff's sergeant with seven felonies for several alleged assaults of a county inmate. Nessel said 43-year-old Ronald Leggitt of Marshall has been placed on unpaid administrative leave. It is alleged that Leggitt assaulted a female inmate six times within a span of 80 minutes.

Supposedly, he sprayed mace in her face at close range and used emergency restraints when she resisted arrest. Leggitt has been charged with one count of Misconduct in Office and six counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
