GAINES CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The public will get its first chance to view a movie inside Celebration Cinema South's new "C Premium" auditorium on February 29th.
The state-of-the-art auditorium in Gaines Township is part of Celebration's first major construction project since work was completed on its Studio Park complex in downtown Grand Rapids in 2019. Celebration South is at 1506 Eastport Dr., just west of Kalamazoo Avenue and just north of M-6.
Emily Loeks Celebration's Public Relations & Community Affairs Director. She says the new movie "Dune: II" will be shown for the first public viewing.
"I think that's a great film for this format, in that it's such an immersive, such a spectacularly beautiful film," Loeks said.
The C Premium auditorium will have about three dozen speakers to provide surround sound.
The facelift at the Celebration Cinema South complex in Gaines Township is Celebration Cinema's first major construction project since work was completed on its Studio Park complex in downtown Grand Rapids in 2019. More than 7.5 million people have visited the 10-screen multiplex since it first opened in 2003. The touch-up includes some new paint and other changes to the theater's aesthetics.
The $4 million renovation is being done in phases so that Celebration South can remain open while construction continues. The four-month-long project is at the midway point. The estimated completion date is in April. All of the Celebration South auditoriums will get heated luxury Irwin Seating Company-built recliner seats
Only the C Premium auditorium will feature Dolby Atmos sound and 4K laser projection.
"One of the most exciting benchmarks is the opening of the C Premium auditorium. It's just going to be a tremendously great movie-going experience," Loeks said.
Other renovations include a full kitchen to support an expanded food and beverage menu. That includes delivery right to your theater seat.
