Coffee Clubhouse, a Grand Rapids coffee shop, has come under fire from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) activists after they learned the shop was hosting an event featuring live reindeer.
Yesterday, Morgan Williams, the Coffee Clubhouse co-owner, said the shop received a barrage of calls and voicemails from PETA supporters about its "Meet the Reindeer" event scheduled for next week.
Williams said the event is meant to spread joy and education this holiday season, as well as help out GG Reindeer Farm, another West Michigan business.
Debbie Metzler, director of captive animal welfare for PETA, disagrees, saying reindeer are wild animals that should not be used for photo ops or strapped to Santa's sleigh.
