Youth-organized protests draw in hundreds in West Michigan

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- Protests organized by young people in west Michigan drew in hundreds on Friday.

Around 300 people attended a short march in the name of George Floyd in East Grand Rapids. Participants also chanted Floyd's name and then knelt in silence for nine minutes, which is about the amount of time a Minneapolis police officer held his knee on Floyd's neck before Floyd died.

Earlier on Friday, hundreds attended a protest and march that started at Bronson Park in Kalamazoo. The Youth Peaceful Protest for Black Lives Matter was organized by Kalamazoo Central High School students, and students from other schools also took part.
