Battle Creek boil water advisory lifted

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — The boil water advisory for everyone using Battle Creek city water was lifted Wednesday.

Officials said tests came back showing there was no dangerous bacteria in the water, so people can again drink their tap water without boiling it first.

On Tuesday, a contractor hit a water main near the Verona Pumping Station, causing a drop in pressure. Such pressure drops can let bacteria into the system, so authorities had to check to make sure the water was safe.

While tests were conducted, a boil water advisory was issued for all 55,000 city water customers in Battle Creek, Springfield, and Bedford, Emmett, Leroy and Pennfield Townships.

Officials say residents may still see brown or discolored water because the pressure drop also stirred up sediments. It should fade within a few days.
