Sheriff: Calhoun Co. jail inmate escapes

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — An inmate at the Calhoun County Jail has escaped after walking away from a non-secure area of the facility.

Edwin Lamarr Walker, 43, escaped around 4:45 a.m. Saturday according to a news release from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities told 24 Hour News 8 the inmate walked out using an emergency exit. Walker was unaccounted for for over 25 minutes, that's when the kitchen manager notified staff that an inmate woker was missing. 

Walker, who is serving a one-year sentence for drug charges, was last seen wearing his green jail uniform and dark blue colored coat with silver reflectors. He is described as a 6-foot-3 black man with short black hair. He weighs 185 pounds. 

The incident remains under invetigation and the search for Walker is ongoing.
