PFAS found near former Cascade Twp. manufacturing plant

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Test have found PFAS in the groundwater near a former manufacturing site in Kent County.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality took a sample from the purge well formerly used by Lacks Industries Cascade site, a former metal-plating manufacturer in Cascade Township. Four groundwater samples were also taken from the area, and tests determined the water contained over 70 parts per trillion of PFAS.

The site was used as a metal-plating manufacturer from 1963-1984, and then was used to produce or assemble plastic parts until 1997.
