Man facing charges after cutting down trees illegally

Officials say a man is facing charges after allegedly illegally cutting down a tree and downing power lines that lead to a school closure in Kent County.

Brandon Richard Genther is facing charges for two incident of taking trees valued at over $1,000 that did not belong to him.

In December, Genther allegedly cut down a black walnut tree near Forest Hills Central High School that came down across a power line and caused the school to close.

Genther then cut down a black walnut tree in January at Chief Hazy Cloud Park.

The larceny of trees charges carry sentences of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
