Suit advances 80-acre development in Gaines Township

GAINES TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - A settlement that was made out-of-court has cleared the way for an 80-acre residential and commercial development on farmland in Gaines Township.

Andy Wyngarden, who currently lives in the only home at 84th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue, says he's not looking forward to the change.

"It's just going to get more and more busy, more clustered, more stressed, and I don't know if you can totally prevent that." Wyngarden told WOOD-TV. "The farmland is going away and we are in the middle of urban sprawl."

"It's definitely going to be different," Township Supervisor Robert Deward said. "I don't think it's going to be bad."

The development firm, which is based in East Lansing, is hoping to start work later this year.
