Bill would help local food banks

Food pantries are trying to juggling rising demand and decreasing inventory.

Phil Knight, executive director of the Food Bank Council of Michigan says inflation is driving demand up.

Feeding America West Michigan shelves normally hold four to five weeks of inventory, however lately they have only had three weeks worth of food.

A bipartisan bill is working through Lansing right now that would give $15 million to food banks.

State Senator Roger Victory says the bill could help connect local food banks with local growers and producers.
