A beloved crossing guard is retiring after 50 years of keeping Grand Rapids children safe as they head to school.
Kattie Eason has helped children cross the corner of Wealthy Street SE and Henry Avenue since 1977.
She says she started the job because she loves working with children.
Eason says every time she thought about retiring, she would meet some more children and decide to stay for a few more years.
