The Big Three 5-16-22

1 A violent weekend comes to a close.

The suspect who allegedly opened fire on a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, over the weekend and killed 10 people while injuring three more had been detained for a mental health check last year after making a school shooting threat.

The 18 yr old surrendered to police after an attack that officials believe may have been planned for months.

Authorities say the young man live-streamed the incident online after driving from several counties to get to the prominently black Buffalo area. Police called the shooting at the Tops Friendly Market a “hate crime and racially motived violent extremism.”

He has been charged with first-degree murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole in New York. He has pleaded not guilty.

Biden is scheduled to travel to Buffalo tomorrow to meet with the families of victims, the White House said.

A man opened fire during a lunch reception at a Southern California church on Sunday, killing one person and wounding five senior citizens before being stopped and hog-tied by parishioners in what a sheriff’s official called an act of “exceptional heroism and bravery.”

The suspect in the shooting, an Asian man in his 60s, was in custody and deputies recovered two handguns at the scene, Undersheriff Jeff Hallock said. A motive for the shooting wasn't immediately known but investigators don't believe the gunman lives in the community, he said.

Two people died in shootings over the weekend in Grand Rapids.

The first happened Saturday night in the Towne and Country parking lot off Kalamazoo Avenue. Two men were shot, and one of them died.

About 12 hours later, a man was shot and killed at the corner of Martin Luther King Junior Street and Geneva.

Police are also investigating after several Grand Rapids businesses were damaged by gunfire over the weekend.

It happened on Wealthy Street early Sunday morning.

No one was hurt.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives, or to call Silent Observer.

They havent released information about suspects

A day after three people were shot downtown, including a 16-year-old boy killed near ‘The Bean,’ Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has imposed a limited curfew, “effective immediately,” for unaccompanied minors in Millennium Park.

A 17 year old has been charged.
