The Big Three 4-15-22

1 The family of Patrick Lyoya, civil rights attorney Ben Crump, and Detroit-based attorney Ven Johnson held a press conference Thursday addressing Lyoya's death.

At the conference, Crump and Johnson called for justice for Lyoya and condemned the actions of the Grand Rapids Police officer involved.

Johnson argued that lethal force was not warranted, saying the officer could not have been in immediate fear of his life while kneeling on Lyoya who didn't have a weapon.

A group gathered at Rosa Parks Circle in Grand Rapids Thursday to demand justice for Patrick Lyoya.

2 Elon Musk made an offer to buy Twitter yesterday and said his decision is about “the future of civilization,” not making money. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO said the deal -- valued at $41.4 billion -- is to ensure Twitter remains a trusted platform for democracy.

3 The Russian guided-missile cruiser Moskva sank in the Black Sea yesterday, according to Russian state news. It is currently unclear what caused the sinking, but conflicting reports have emerged:

Ukraine says it hit the vessel with missiles, but Russia says a fire broke out and detonated the ship's stored ammunition.

The sinking of the Moskva is significant because it was the flagship of Russia's Black Sea fleet and one of their most visible assets in the Ukraine war -- and its loss will raise doubts about Russia's fighting abilities, whether it was due to enemy action or accident.
